Salted Caramel Peanuts

?

These Salted Caramel Peanuts are really strange. They taste pretty good, and I very much enjoyed eating them, however they’re missing things that should be fairly obvious. In fact what they’re missing is right in the name. I can safely say that all but two out of a fairly good sized scoop of these Salted Caramel Peanuts had peanuts. There were two little globs that did not contain peanuts, but I’m willing to overlook that.

The thing that kind of boggled my mind was what was missing, caramel and salt. There might have been some salt in the coating, so I won’t say that there wasn’t any salt at all. I would even go so far as to say that there was a slight salty flavour to these. So while there was no obvious salt, I’m willing to go half way about this ingredient, and say that these where salty or likely contained salt. Salt however was not the main ingredient.

The strangest things was the complete lack of caramel. You might be able to argue that there was caramel flavouring in the light brown chocolate that coated each peanut, but it wasn’t the most authentic of flavouring for sure. Texture wise it was nothing like caramel, and that makes sense since it was a caramel flavoured chocolate. I have to say while I didn’t mind the flavour of the chocolate coating, I really didn’t get true caramel feeling out of it.

I’m saying all of this because I think you could make a caramel coated salted peanut. I feel like it’s in the realm of possibilities in the candy world. I understand that the challenge would be to make a caramel coating that doesn’t stick to each other or any packaging, but I feel like it’s possible with the many powders we have available to us in the world. While I enjoyed these Salted Caramel Peanuts, in the end I was just left both wondering about and craving an actual salted peanut covered in caramel.
