Snickers "Xtreme Extra Nuts & Caramel"

Mars

Snickers might be one of the hardest bars in the world to make a variation. Other than just changing the chocolate on the outside, changing this bar any other way runs the risk of making it feel like it’s no longer a Snickers bar. In my mind, a Snickers bar is that nice blend of nougat, caramel and peanuts. Once you start messing with any of these, you really run the risk of changing it so much that it’s not really a Snickers bar anymore. Shape, size and chocolate type really seem like the only way you can mess with a Snickers without making it into another bar.

This bar is a great example of just that. However, it’s not as bad as some other Snickers variations I’ve had in the past. The main reason I think it’s okay is that it takes two of the ingredients and amps them up... a lot. What you have here is a Snickers bar without the nougat, but instead of calling it “Snickers Xtreme Without The Nougat”, they decided to sell the extra peanuts and caramel instead. So I think I have to knock this bar down a little in novelty since it really didn’t deliver a Snickers bar.

The thing is, they did deliver a fine candy bar. While I missed the nougat a bit, the blend of caramel and peanuts was really great. The ratio of both ingredients was spot on, and it went really well with the chocolate too. As a bar on its own, it’s not bad. I wouldn’t say it’s as good as a Snickers, but it’s pretty good.

What you think of this bar depends greatly on what you’re expecting. If you want a Snickers bar, you’re going to be disappointed. If you like caramel and peanuts, and you’re not expecting anything other than that you might really enjoy this.
