This is what I might call a very European box of chocolates. There’s no doubt that it was sold in Finland, due to the fact that it’s covered with illustrations depicting Finland and that it was a gift from two of my favourite Finnish people. On the back of the box there’s also a great deal of Finnish writing as well, but there’s also indications of Italian origins. So, I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure where these chocolates were made, except that I’m pretty sure it was somewhere in Europe. That doesn’t bother me too much, as I enjoyed the awesome tin that reminded me of my not-so-distant adventures in Finland, and the chocolates were pretty good as well.

One of the great things about many European chocolate companies is their understanding of hazelnuts. They understand that hazelnuts have a wonderful flavour that works well with chocolate. They also often understand how these two flavours have to be properly balanced. If one element is too strong, the other disappears. There’s also a balance of sugar in these cases, as too sweet a mix will also dilute this amazing combination. These are certainly hazelnut chocolates, and the flavour is almost perfect.

I should also note that these chocolates are remarkably dense. I picked one up and I could feel the weight. Each wrapped in gold foil, beautifully displayed in the box felt like a precious stone rather than a chocolate.

If I did have one complaint about these chocolates, it would be the choice of adding crispy rice puffs into the hazelnut filling. I feel like the filling would be fine on its own, however if you really felt the need to give it a crunchy texture, bits of hazelnut would have worked so much better. It’s a minor flaw, and I can assure you I’ll enjoy this entire box of decadent chocolates.
