I’m not sure if this is a trend, or a coincidence, but I’ve recently discovered a few Asian gummy candies that call themselves fudge. I don’t know if it’s just a mistranslated or a cultural thing, but every time I eat one of these treat I find myself slightly disappointed. The disappointment coming from the fact that I’m expecting these to be fudge (a butter based creamy treat) and not a gummy (a chewy, almost rubbery treat). The main reason this disappoints me is that I would really love to try a mango flavoured fudge.
If you get around the name of this treat, then what you’re left with is a fine mango gummy. It’s a good mouthful and fairly dense. I don’t often think about gummies density, but these are so much more dense than most gummies and it’s worth mentioning. The density gives them a nice chew, solid but not so solid that you’ll hurt your jaw. The flavour is also very nice, I suspect that there’s a whole lot of real mango juice in these gummies.
The shape is a bit of a failure. It’s very obvious that they’ve attempted to make them the same shape as a mango, but it didn’t really go very well. On each and every one of the mango gummies, one of the ends is missing. It makes them shaped more like a light bulb or hot air balloon than a mango. Visually it’s not a complete failure though, the colour is spot on for a mango and the shine makes it look freshly peeled.
These are fine gummy mangoes. If they were mango flavoured fudge it would be something amazing and new, but as it stands they’re just gummies.
