United Hotdog

United

A hot dog flavoured corn treat doesn’t sound like a great idea. Honestly, there are parts of this snack that were okay, and parts that were really fascinating. The most average aspect of this treat is the texture. Texture wise it’s really just a slightly dense corn puff. That’s probably the only aspect of this treat that wasn’t unique as well. I say the word unique to be polite because I think this snack can best be described as kind of weird. The good thing is when you buy a bag of hot dog themed corn snacks, you’re expecting weird.

The weirdest thing about these snacks was most certainly the shape/design. The bun portion of the snacks are pretty much what you might expect from your average corn puff, but with a hole in the middle. Inside the hole is another puff, but narrower, with no hole and red coloured. I was honestly expecting to get a single puff with dabs of red on the end to represent the wiener, but the red wiener actually goes through the whole treat and appears to be a second piece. It’s a lot of detail and work for a treat like this and it’s also the part I really respect.

Probably my least favourite part of this is the flavour. It has two flavour components that really shine through. There’s a fairly sweet corn flavour and a smokey flavour. I’m not a big fan of fake smoke flavours since they don’t really taste like anything smokey. I always say that fake smoke flavour just tastes like fake bacon, and I’m not a big fan. When you add a sweet corn flavour it only makes things more confusing. I didn’t totally hate the flavour of these, but I wasn’t a fan either.

If you see a bag of these you really should try them out. I’m not saying you’ll love them, but I feel like anyone who reads a website dedicated to reviewing candy would appreciate the weirdness that these are. After eating them, you might find them mildly interesting, but I don’t think anyone will ever go for a second bag.
