The name of these chips pretty much describes the chips themselves. This is the “classic” flavour of Lay’s potato chips. In fact I might even go so far as to say that these are the classic flavour of just about any potato chip out there. What I mean by this is if you had to find the best example to show someone (maybe from another planet) what a potato chip was, this is probably what I would give. This doesn’t mean that this is the best flavour of potato chip ever, it’s also not the most unique, it’s just the taste and texture that I think of when I think of potato chips, it’s the “classic” flavour of potato chip.

If you were to say that these potato chips are a little dull, I wouldn’t argue with you, but I don’t think you’re totally right either. I could easily see how some people would find these to be a little dull. There’s nothing here except for the flavour of potato and salt. Personally I actually enjoy the flavour of potato and I really like salty snacks, so for me these aren’t very dull at all. When I open a bag of these I know exactly what I’m going to get, and I wouldn’t open a bag of these unless I wanted what I was expecting.

It’s also worth noting that these chips are really good for dipping in other things. If you hand me some cream cheese dip, some tzatziki, or some sour cream dip, this is the chip I would want to dip those in. Even if you find these to be a little dull on their own, there’s no denying that they make the perfect palette for just about any kind of dip. As a snacking purist that might be a bit of a cheat, but it’s undeniable.

I feel like these fall into the same category as a good vanilla ice cream or a nice bar or milk chocolate. These chips are nothing spectacular, unique, they might even be a little boring, but the world would be a sad place if they didn’t exist.
