Frooze Balls "Caramel Choc Peanut Butter"

Tasti Products

I feel like there’s some kind of confusion going on with these Frooze Balls. Right off the bat I’ll say that these are not what I expected, and the package isn’t helping me. There are a lot of ingredients and flavours promised, but frankly the flavours that aren’t plastered all over the front of the package are the strongest flavours. What’s not mentioned on the front of the package is coconut and dates. It should be mentioned that the first two ingredients in this treat are dates and date syrup. The coconut is a little further down the list, but the flavour and texture are very strong.

The flavours that are missing are caramel, hazelnut and almond. The peanut butter is there, but the dates really cover it up a lot. The “choc”, which I assume is supposed to be chocolate is also very weak, I’m not even sure I taste any cocoa at all. My guess is that they use the word “choc” instead of chocolate because it looks good on a package, but they’re not really using that much of it. The caramel is there when I bite into them, visually at least but flavour wise they might have just filled this with more peanut butter because it’s really not doing anything at all.

I’ll be honest, my assumption is that this is supposed to be some kind of “healthy” energy treat for those who want a sweet snack that’s healthy. I’m not a health expert at all, and I’m not sure how much sugar dates have in them, or how they fit into a healthy diet. On this site I’ve always had the belief that a good way to snack is to have smaller portions of something great. These are not that great, but I feel like you could eat more of them.

Because the package doesn’t really look like something filled with dates, I feel a little deceived. Maybe these are popular in New Zealand (where they’re made) and maybe I should have known what they are. I saw them on the snack food shelf of a grocery store next to some chocolate bars. I assumed they would be more decadent and less... well... dates. They’re not horrible, but I feel like I’d rather be eating a square of nice milk/dark chocolate instead.
