Sour Patch Kids "Strawberry"

Mondelez

I have a problem with these gummy candies, but it’s not really an a problem with the candy itself. It’s actually a problem with the packaging and marketing for this candy. In fact, if these strawberry gummies where presented to me without a package I wouldn’t have a problem at all. The issue stems from the fact that these are advertised as Sour Patch Kids, yet they’re strawberry shaped. If you have a successful brand like Sour Patch Kids, why wouldn’t you just make them the shape of regular Sour Patch Kids?

The only thing I could think of is that maybe they use the same sour formula that they use for Sour Patch Kids. While I don’t have a Sour Patch Kid to compare, I think the sour is similar, but maybe not as powerful. That could be because the size and shape of these strawberries doesn’t allow for as much sour powder to adhere to each gummy (a surface area issue). It could also be that the strawberry flavour is a little more powerful. It’s also possible that the strawberry flavour doesn’t work with the sour as well (no one really likes sour strawberries) so they didn’t use as much sour powder.

Basically what you have here is a fine bag of slightly sour strawberry gummies. The strawberry flavour is more in the fake strawberry flavour, but it’s totally fine. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with these, but I’m sure that I’m not the first person to wonder why they didn’t make them the same shape as classic Sour Patch Kids.
