I think my dream when it comes to cheese flavoured potato chips could also be my nightmare. I want to try a cheese flavoured potato chip that tastes vastly different than other cheese flavoured potato chips. There is a huge variety of cheeses in the world, but most cheese flavoured potato chips have a fake cheddar flavour. As you can imagine I would enjoy the variety, however my problem is that there are many cheese out there that I don’t really like (I’m looking at you blue cheese), so it could be horrible. I guess what I’m hoping for one day is a bag of cheese flavoured potato chips with a low taste score, but a really high novelty score.
These chips aren’t exactly that, I would say that the flavour leans more into the classic cheddar cheese potato chip flavour with maybe a bit of a hint of sharpness. Maybe sharpness isn’t the exact word, I’m not really sure how to describe cheese flavours sine I’m not a cheese expert. I would say if comparing these to real cheese, they taste like a blend of cheddar and a little Swiss. This is actually a good thing in my book because since it gives them a slightly different flavour, but also doesn’t make me want to spit them out. It also represents what’s on the bag a little better than most chips do.
The chips themselves are okay. They seems a little more solid than most mass produced potato chips. It’s a fairly satisfying crunch, and there were plenty of chips still in one piece. Not that I don’t like a delicate potato chip, but there’s a middle ground that many chip companies go for that’s just getting boring for me. I’ve eaten so many average potato chips that it’s occasionally nice to get something a little thicker or a little thinner now and then.
There are fine cheese potato chips. I wouldn’t suggest you hunt them out, but if you come across them they’re well worth giving a try. I still wait for the day that I’m shocked by the flavour of a cheese potato chip, but at least the flavour I get over and over again is pretty good.
