I think no one would argue that these Sushi Bento chocolate treats look adorable. I’m pretty sure that’s the main, and possibly only reason anyone would buy these. The most you could hope is that these sushi (and other food shaped) chocolates were at least made with a good high quality chocolate as well. There are really no surprises expected with this treat, and honestly you pretty much get no surprises.
If these weren’t shaped like little pieces of very adorable food this review would be really short. These are basically thin, almost wafer like pieces of low to mid-range chocolate. The flavour of the chocolate is fairly weak, the texture is a little a more waxy than I normally like. I assume it’s fairly low quality chocolate because it has to survive shipping and sitting on a shelf in a warm climate (South East Asia where I bought it). This is by no means a chocolate fanatics choice of treat, it’s more a treat for someone who really loves cute Asian things.
While I pretty much got what I expected, it’s not to say that I think it couldn’t have been improved. There could have been some added texture and flavour to this treat that could have made it really fun. On the extreme level they could have flavoured it with some common sushi flavours, but on a more realistic front even some fake fruit flavours would have been a nice surprise. They also could have given each shape some unique textures, something a little crunchy maybe? Right now it’s just very bland chocolate, and it really doesn’t match the cute food theme of this treat.
I could see someone buying this treat, posting fun pictures online, then eating it while being slightly disappointed.
