I’ve often written on this site that some of the treats I review are not really “candy”, I feel like this might get that criticism. I also would have a hard time arguing that except for the fact that I found this in the candy section of a Mexican/South American specialty store. I don’t think I’ll ever delete this review because people feel strongly about the candiness of this treat, but I’ll listen to your arguments for sure. I would probably describe this as a spread, like Nutella rather than a candy.

While I did enjoy this treat well enough, the fact that it’s just a small container of sticky spread makes it challenging to eat without any toast. When I first started sampling this treat I just dipped my fingers in. I figured that it’s maybe how some people might eat it, but after a while I decided to dip a few short bread cookies into this spread instead. Without the cookies I did manage to get better idea of the flavours of this treat, however the cookie dipping was much more pleasurable. If there are any Mexican people out there that know how you’re really supposed to eat this, let me know.

As for the flavour itself, the concept is really unique, but the quality was just okay. The concept is that rather than just getting a chocolate/hazelnut spread you get a vanilla/strawberry/chocolate hazelnut medley of spreads. It’s like the neopolitan ice cream of spreads. The problem is that when you mix flavours like these together you find that one flavour dominates. In this case it seems to be the strawberry. It wasn’t just that the strawberry spread was a stronger flavour than the rest either, it felt like the strawberry flavour leeched into the other flavours as well. I also noticed that the chocolate didn’t taste very hazelnut like either.

I like the idea of this treat. While I can’t say the execution was great, the concept is fine. It might not be a candy, but it was a fine place to dunk some nice shortbread cookies.
