I really would have loved to have been in the room when the idea for the "Nerds Rope" came up. I picture a bunch of executives in suits, sitting at a big table discussing new ideas for their upcoming candy line.
"So Bob, our nerds are selling great, but we need to come up with a new variation. We need something more than just a new flavour, any ideas?"
"Well Jim how about we make a giant Nerd?"
"Too difficult to package."
"What about putting them in a special dispenser?"
"Already been done."
"What about getting some kind of fruity sticky log and rolling it with Nerds?"
"Brilliant, Bob you'll make us rich!"
The strange thing about this Nerds Rope is that no matter how silly it seems on paper, it's not a bad idea at all. The Nerd flavour really overpowers everything, but the sticky log thing does add and interesting texture to this treat. The sticky log also holds the nerds remarkably well. I was expecting to bite into this rope just to have nerds falling all over the place, but it just didn't happen. I was also expecting to open the package and have no Nerds attached to the log and all of the at the bottom of the package, but they were all firmly attached.
One of the keys of this snack working is that the texture of the sticky log thing is just right. The sticky log wasn't too hard to bite, but it was chewy enough to get noticed. With the texture of the Nerds it actually had a nice contrast.
I have to say I'm pretty pleased with this treat and it was kind of surprising. Some might see it as a silly idea, as I did when I first saw this treat, but I think it actually really worked out well.
