If you don’t mind being a little confused, then this candy is okay. I mean okay in that it tastes a little fruity, and the popping candy did stick to the lollipop. It’s by no means an amazing candy, most of the components are pretty average, maybe a little below average in some cases. The best part of this treat is the lollipops, which were both hard and had a pretty strong orange flavour (I’ll have more about the flavour choice later). The popping candy flavour was pretty weak, and even the amount of popping was pretty low. I feel like the popping candy might have had some basic sugar bits that didn’t pop added as well.
The confusing part of this candy came from the flavour, or lack of any guidance on the flavour. The front of the package simply called this “mixed flavour”, and that’s fairly accurate. If you check the back of the package you can see that they offer orange flavoured lollipops with cola and strawberry flavoured popping candy. The package hints a little at the orange lollipop and strawberry, but the cola is out in left field. There’s also no blueberry in this treat, which the package suggest quite a bit. The popping candy is also fairly weak in flavour, so without reading the package I had no idea what flavour they were trying to be. I suspected some kind of fruit, but I wasn’t sure.
The orange lollipop is probably the only part of this treat that had a strong enough flavour, which is problematic since it killed the other two flavours. I also found the flavour combinations to be a little weird. I’m not sure if I’ve ever tasted orange and cola together before, but I can tell you that when the orange is the dominant flavour it doesn’t really work. Strawberry is also a little odd to mix with orange, and once again it needs balance, which this does not have.
I should have guessed that the words “mixed flavor” might be problematic, but I thought it might mean that it was going to be a general fruit flavour with no real specific fruit in mind. Instead it was an odd combination of flavours that really didn’t work well together. I should also mention that there was not nearly enough popping candy, so I ended up with two orange lollipops and no popping candy at the end.
